With 3 years of experience you could probably look at some Associate Member exam papers as these tends to be a more rigid right/wrong schemes, and the question even tells you what to calculate. This could be a good start to learning how to design a few things outside your day to day work, eg retaining walls, crane corbels etc.

Once you’ve got a few AM papers done then move onto CM level papers where the weighting on concept design increases!

I'm Rhys, an undergraduate at the University of Bath looking to become chartered after I graduate. I have experience in the design and construction of Temporary Works and have experimented with design automation and optimisation which is an area I am keen to explore in my graduate engineering life.

Hi all,

I'm Paul, a chartered civil engineer with 6 years design experience working for a temporary works excavation support supplier and 2 years design experience working for a civil, structural and geotechnical consultants specialising in temporary works design. Looking to sit the chartered exam with the IStructE through the mutual recognition route in the next 12-18 months.
